Vietnam's Data Centre and Grid Infrastructure Pipeline Gains Momentum

New hyperscale data-centre investment, battery storage deployment and HVDC equipment manufacturing signals show that Vietnam's digital infrastructure growth is increasingly tied to power availability, grid flexibility and long-term industrial execution.

Ho Chi Minh City's Evolution DC VN HCMC project has received an investment certificate for a hyperscale 52 MW IT-load data centre with registered capital of more than USD 508 million.
CMC's Ho Chi Minh City hyperscale data-centre project has been approved with an initial 30 MW phase and a longer-term expansion target of up to 120 MW.
EVNHANOI has put five battery energy storage systems into operation, with a combined 50 MW/100 MWh capacity connected at 110 kV substations.

Data centres move from planning to investment execution
Vietnam's data-centre market is moving into a more concrete stage of infrastructure execution. In Ho Chi Minh City, the Evolution DC VN HCMC project has received an investment registration certificate as part of a group of strategic high-tech projects. The project is described as a hyperscale, wholesale and carrier-neutral data centre with registered capital of USD 508.78 million and a designed IT load of 52 MW.
In parallel, CMC's Hyperscale Data Center project in Saigon Hi-Tech Park has been approved with investment of more than USD 250 million. The project is expected to start with an initial capacity of 30 MW and may expand to 120 MW, positioning it as a core facility for AI computing, cloud services and enterprise digital transformation.
Storage and transmission become the next infrastructure layer
As computing capacity grows, power-system readiness becomes more important. EVNHANOI has completed the installation and commissioning of five battery energy storage systems across five 110 kV substations in Hanoi. With total capacity of 50 MW/100 MWh, these BESS units are intended to support grid operation, load regulation and system flexibility.
Meanwhile, GE Vernova's planned USD 200 million investment in Hai Phong adds another layer to Vietnam's electricity infrastructure ecosystem. The facility is expected to manufacture large power transformers mainly for High-Voltage Direct Current projects, complementing GE Vernova's HVDC transformer manufacturing footprint in other regions and supporting rising regional demand for electrification equipment.
