In the early development of the data center market, most operational indicators remained internal. As facilities grow larger and consume more electricity, governments, investors and customers increasingly want to know how much power and water a site uses, how efficiently it operates and how much clean energy it sources.

More markets are incorporating these requirements into regulatory frameworks. The goal is not only oversight, but also a common language for comparing operational quality. Metrics such as PUE, renewable energy share, emissions per unit of compute and capacity utilization are becoming more important to institutional customers.

As AI workloads expand, the demand for transparency becomes stronger. Higher load density amplifies operational weaknesses: inefficient cooling, poorly optimized backup power or immature monitoring processes can significantly increase cost and reduce reliability.

For digital infrastructure companies, transparency is not only about compliance. It is also a way to build market trust. Facilities that can demonstrate efficiency and operating quality with clear data will be better positioned for long-term advantage.
