Bloom Energy and Brookfield have expanded their partnership to finance power projects for AI infrastructure, increasing the framework from US$5 billion to US$25 billion. The move is significant not only because of its scale, but because it shows how quickly power is becoming a front-line issue for AI infrastructure. As AI workloads expand, the ability to secure electricity is increasingly as important as securing land, network connectivity, cooling capacity and server hardware.

For many AI projects, the central bottleneck is no longer only the availability of GPUs. It is the speed at which high-quality electricity can be connected and delivered. Traditional grid interconnection timelines can be long, and grid upgrades may not match the speed of AI demand. This creates a market for modular fuel-cell systems, battery storage, hybrid microgrids, dedicated substations and energy contracts designed specifically for large computing loads.

This changes the logic of data-center development. Instead of building a facility first and solving power later, future AI infrastructure projects are likely to start with an integrated energy plan. Developers will need to coordinate generation, storage, backup, switchgear, power quality, cooling and compute density from the earliest stage. The result is a more complex but also more resilient infrastructure model, where energy delivery becomes part of compute delivery.
